Sad News

Condolences to our Tahoe Hotshot Brothers in the loss of their Squad Boss Michael Kelly, II.  Our hearts go out to his Family and Friends.

The Tahoe National Forest (TNF) is very sad to announce that one of our firefighters, Michael Patrick Kelly II, was found deceased on Marysville Road in Camptonville early Saturday morning.
Kelly, age 32, served as a Squad Boss on Tahoe Hotshots Crew, headquartered in Camptonville. Mike joined the Forest Service as a permanent employee in 2003 and has been a Tahoe National Forest employee since 2008. "This is a tragic loss for Mike's family, for Tahoe National Forest, and for the fire-fighting community," said Tahoe Forest Supervisor Tom Quinn.
Mike served in many capacities during his career in the Forest Service, serving as a fire fighter on fire engines, as a smoke jumper and as a Hotshot Crew Squad Boss. Mike's death is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol and the Yuba County Sheriff's Office.

Cards and condolences can be sent care of the Yuba River Ranger District, 15924 Highway 49, Camptonville, CA 95922
